Case Study: Alma Communications

Project
Alma Communications is an independent telephone company providing telephone service in rural Missouri. This project involved upgrading an original RUS service that Finley designed and installed in the early 1970s. The challenge was to create a system that would provide service for the next 30+ years across a service area of 66 square miles.

Solution
Based on recommendations from Finley, Alma Communications opted for a FTTH conversion. Finley engineers designed the system, and managed the construction and installation of a whole new system: central plant, outside, switching, and cable installation.

Outcome
The project – the first full FTTH installation in Missouri – was up and running in 12 months. It provides more than adequate bandwidth for planned service upgrades such as VoIP and video. Maintenance and trouble reports on the new system are virtually nonexistent.
