GFiber received top marks in a survey of internet service providers (ISP) by HighSpeedInternet.com, in which winners of other categories included Astound Broadband, AT&T Fiber, and Brightspeed.

GFiber was the best overall performer in HighSpeedInternet.com’s annual survey, finishing with 8.5 out of 10 points. That beat out Astound Broadband (8.2), Metronet (7.7), Frontier (7.5) and Brightspeed (7.0). It was the second year in a row that GFiber, which is the branding of Google Fiber networks, took top overall honors.

GFiber, with a score of 8.3, also was rated as providing the best customer service. In a close category, it beat Quantum Fiber and Ziply Fiber (both at 8.25), Consolidated Communications (8.23), and Astound Broadband (8.13).

The fastest ISP was Brightspeed, with an average of 290 Mbps. It was followed by GFiber (279 Mbps), Verizon (253 Mbps), Xfinity (246 Mbps), and Cox (242 Mbps).

The best value category was won by Astound Broadband, with a score of 9.3. It was followed by Metronet (7.8), GFiber and Quantum Fiber (both at 7.5), and Frontier (7.3).

AT&T Fiber was considered the most reliable (8.1). It was followed by GFiber (7.8), Brightspeed (7.7), Breezeline (7.6), and TDS (7.4).

Finally, in the customers’ choice category — another close category — Astound Broadband was tops at 8.6. It was followed by Verizon, Ziply Fiber, and GFiber, all at 8.5. Metronet finished at 8.3.

“Overall, it was a good year for America’s internet providers,” according to the commentary in the report. “[C]ustomer approval is up, with ratings about 20% better than the previous year. We’ve also seen improved performance, with some ISPs showing up to a 40Mbps increase in average download speed.”

HighSpeedInternet’s report is built using data from copious sources. For instance, the speed category is based on an average of 45,000 speed tests and data from thousands of ISPs that are contacted every day.
